on The Terrace
Our Terrace is ideal for enjoying lunch or dinner, whether for two or with a larger party. The retractable roof provides ample sunshine in the summer and shelter during rain. We also offer heaters and blankets for your comfort. We recommend making an advanced reservation, especially since larger tables are limited. The Terrace is open year-round, but availability and service may be limited during winter months. Reservations are required on weekends.

Our Dining Room has an open, understated style with a sophisticated yet relaxed ambience whilst The Bar and Lounge offers a more rustic, traditional country feel. Scattered with comfy leather chairs, exposed brickwork and log burner, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.

Located in the picturesque village of Matching Green, it serves as a convenient rural dining destination on the Hertfordshire/Essex border, close to Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford, and the M11. The Chequers features a freshly prepared menu in a warm, stylish atmosphere, ample free parking, and excellent taxi services.

Savour the picturesque scene of the charming Matching village green, spanning 4.9 hectares, making it one of the largest remaining village greens in Essex, right from our garden. Our garden picnic benches come with cosy cushions and are shaded by parasols. The garden is open during the summer months (weather permitting)! Walk-ins are welcome, but please note that spaces are limited on busy days.
